Nigerian female students have been advised against protesting naked in the streets over the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) long-running strike.

According to social media reports, some female students intend to demonstrate naked on the streets, pleading with the government and ASUU to reach an agreement and end the strike.

Former Kaduna senator Shehu Sani reacted by urging students not to demonstrate naked in order to avoid detracting from their principal purpose.

His tweet read: The nationwide student protest against the ongoing university strike is admirable and should be supported.

However, certain female students’ threats to demonstrate naked should be put on hold in order to avoid causing severe distractions from the core purpose of the conflict.”

Meanwhile, students from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Tai Solarin University of Education, Science and Technology (TASUED) Ijagun, and Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB) Abeokuta blocked the Sagamu-Benin Expressway on Monday in a show of solidarity.
“End the ASUU strike now,” “We say no to educational stagnancy,” “We’re tired of deadlock meetings,” and “Education should not be this difficult” were among the posters hoisted by the students.

The ASUU strike was just extended for another three months, making it three months since it began on February 14th.

However, there are signs that the strike may be called off shortly, as the Minister has expressed his willingness to do so.

However, there are indications that the strike might be called off soon as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said the agreement reached with ASUU would yield good fruits next week.
