It’s been a thrilling year for the Nigerian music industry in 2019, the year has witnessed break out stars like Rema, Fireboy DML, T Classic etc. So far Zlatan Ibile has been the hottest music act bagging the most collaborations in the past six months.
Loads of beautiful music and albums have been put out so far, even with that superstars like Wizkid, Davido and Tiwa Savage are yet to release an official single. In the midst all the music release so far we have handpicked some of the hottest songs out there rocking the streets, clubs and music charts on TV and radio.
Here goes our top 12 hottest Naija songs in 2019 so far (January – June) in no particular order.
1. Burna Boy – Killing Dem ft. Zlatan
Spaceship Entertainment singer boy had a fantastic run in 2018 with a highly revered ‘Outside’ album and lots back to back hits. After touring the world towards the end of 2018, Burna Boy dropped ‘Killin Dem’ in December. The song featured Zanku master Zlatan Ibile. Fast forward to 2019 the tune has been burning the airwaves and topping music charts on TV and radio.
2. T Classic – Nobody Fine Pass You
From a lowly beginning Mix Naija lead artiste T Classic is fast becoming a household name with his beautiful tunes. The singer struck more fame with the release of his hit single ‘Nobody Fine Pass You’. The single has over the past few months become a fan favourite, so far the music video has garnered over a million views on YouTube.
Mavin Records / Jonzing World artiste Rema came into the music industry with a bang. Signed in March Rema dropped a self-titled EP with four tracks. The biggest track on the EP has to be ‘Dumebi’. The tune became an instant smash hit, ‘Dumebi’ also garnered a million views on YouTube within 14 days day of release.
Last year Olamide signed Fireboy DML to his music imprint as the start of new things for the next rated singer. He was part of the artiste on the ‘YBNL Mafia Family’ album and his song ‘Jealous’ made the cut. Although released in 2018, the tune gained organic traction in 2019 as ‘Jealous’ became a huge tune on radio and TV.
Fly Boy Inc. honcho has been very consistent over the past few years and in 2019 he has maintained the momentum. He dropped his much talked about ‘No Bad Songz’ album last year. A standout single on that album is ‘Madu‘. The tune piqued the attention of music lovers this year shortly after the release of the sensual music video which starred Beverly Osu.
This year Timaya got to deliver a body of work after some years. The DM Records boss dropped ‘Chulo Vibes’ EP earlier in 2019. One of the best tracks on the EP is ‘Balance’ a groovy feel-good track where Timaya tells his rags to riches story. ‘Balance‘ bangs on the streets across Nigeria.
7. Mayorkun – True ft. Kizz Daniel
After dropping a successful debut album ‘The Mayor Of Lagos’ in 2018, DMW star act Mayorkun premiered a new single ‘True‘. Since its release, the tune has grown on Nigerians and climbed the music charts. Mayorkun featured the consistent Kizz Daniel who made a mark on the record.
8. 2Baba – Oyi
Legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba is celebrating 20 years in the music industry where he has managed to dominate all through those years. As early as January, 2Baba released his hit tune ‘Oyi‘ to wide acceptance by fans. The revered singer laid out his song in the usual pidgin English and his native Idoma dialect.
9. Patoranking – Confirm ft. Davido
Straight from the staples of Amari Musiq came ‘Confirm’ by Patoranking featuring Davido. The song was the first official single taken off Patoranking’s sophomore album dubbed ‘Wilmer’. The tune banged on the top radio and TV channels across Nigeria and abroad.
Damini Ogulu pulled out ‘Dangote’ rumoured to be a single off his forthcoming ‘African Giant’ album. Burna Boy titled his Afrobeat tune after the world’s richest black man. The tune which preaches hard work and focus resonates very well among his fans.
11. Naira Marley – Am I A Yahoo Boy ft. Zlatan
Born Azeez Fashola, Naira Marley made news headlines over his outright support for ‘yahoo yahoo’. Keeping up the flow, the musician released a song ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy’ highlighting his buddy Zlatan. He was later arrested days after by the EFCC which made the track even more popular and in demand. At the moment over 3 million views on YouTube.
12. Larry Gaaga – Low ft. Wizkid
Nigerian music mogul Larry Gaaga pulled in Wizkid for a sensational tune ‘Low’. In a year where Wizkid has not released any official single in 2019 at the time of writing. ‘Low’ was just the right tune for millions of the Starboy fans. The song has over 7 million views at the time of writing.
