NEWS: American R&B Star, James Ingram Dies at 66

James Ingram, the profound, smooth voice behind R&B hits like “Just Once” and “I Don’t Have The Heart,” has passed on at 66 years old.

Ingram’s long-lasting companion and imaginative accomplice, Debbie Allen, affirmed the news of his going to CNN on Tuesday.

“I have lost my dearest companion and imaginative accomplice James Ingram to the Celestial Choir,” Allen wrote in a tribute on Twitter. “He will dependably be loved, adored and associated with his virtuoso, his affection for family and his mankind. I am honored to have been so close. We will perpetually talk his name.”

The reason for Ingram’s passing was not uncovered.

Ingram, an Ohio local, got his begin as a performer with the band Revelation Funk and later played consoles for Ray Charles. He was assigned for 14 Grammy Awards, winning for best male R&B execution for his melody “One Hundred Ways” in 1981 and best R&B execution for a team or gathering in 1984 for “Yah Mo B There.”

His two part harmony with Patti Austin, “How Do You Keep the Music Playing,” earned an Oscar designation for best unique tune in 1983.
